Pay Rate: $36.00/hour (4th year apprentice rate)
Job Summary:
The RMC Group of Companies seeks a skilled and knowledgeable Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its team. As a member of the maintenance team, this role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment, including concrete trucks, pick-up trucks, and off-road equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on fleet vehicles under the guidance of a Journeyperson HET
- Participate in troubleshooting and repairing concrete trucks, pick-up trucks, and off-road equipment
- Communicate with the parts team to order, supply, and receive parts for repairs in a timely and efficient manner
- Complete daily work orders accurately to ensure all maintenance and repair activities are documented
- Communicate with drivers regarding maintenance and repair of trucks
- Assist Journeypeople with CVIP completion on an annual basis
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times
- Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use
- Order, pick-up, and deliver parts as required
- Participate in safety programming, including pre- and post-trip inspections, wearing PPE, and attending safety meetings
- Perform general labor as required
Requirements:
- Registered Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice; a 4th-year apprentice is strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
- Previous experience working in the construction, concrete, or a related industry is an asset
- 1-2 years of prior heavy-duty mechanical experience dealing with large fleet vehicles such as concrete trucks is preferred
- Previous experience working with off-road equipment is an asset, including pneumatic equipment

Hours of Work:
Typical shifts are 8 hours in length, with a rotating schedule of day shifts (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) and afternoon shifts (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM). Apprentices are required to work one Saturday a month, either day or afternoon shift.
Physical Demands:
This is moderately strenuous work, involving frequent lifting of materials up to 30 pounds and consistent exertion on arms, hands, and fingers. Work is primarily indoors in a shop environment, with frequent outdoor work pulling fleet vehicles or driving out to job sites, freeways, or roads for emergency repairs.
