Animal Care Attendant

About the Role:
The BC SPCA is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Attendant to join our team at our shelter. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional care and attention to the animals in our shelter, including feeding, cleaning, and providing a safe and comfortable environment.
- Work collaboratively with our front office staff to provide excellent customer service and support to the public.
- Assist with the intake and adoption of animals, including preparing animals for adoption and providing information to potential adopters.
- Participate in the maintenance of the shelter, including cleaning and disinfecting areas, and performing other duties as required.
- Work collaboratively with our animal health team to ensure the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
- Provide support to our volunteers and other staff members as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
- Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
- Demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics and common diseases.
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills: patience, professional, positive attitude, attention to detail, adaptability.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers and volunteers.
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
- Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, pushing and pulling which requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties.
- Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to prioritize demands on time.
