Job Summary

WoodGreen is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Assistant to join our team. As an Early Childhood Assistant, you will be responsible for the guidance and care of children in groups, planning and implementing daily programs that enhance children's social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional development. You will also be responsible for setting reasonable limits according to the child's developmental stage and giving appropriate direction, encouragement, and support individually and in groups. Additionally, you will be responsible for recognizing, dealing with, and defining unusual behavior and reporting to the Manager and working with various professional and resource persons to alleviate issues.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement daily programs that enhance children's social, physical, intellectual, cognitive, and emotional development.
  • Set reasonable limits according to the child's developmental stage and give appropriate direction, encouragement, and support individually and in groups.
  • Recognize, deal with, and define unusual behavior and report to the Manager and work with various professional and resource persons to alleviate issues.
  • Record the children's daily attendance and receive medical information, especially in cases of ongoing absenteeism.
  • Ensure the children's daily safety, health, and hygienic conditions.
  • Safely escort children outside the centre and ensure adequate supervision on all outings.
  • Write daily reports, complete written assessments and developmental checklists, and inform parents on an ongoing basis about children's progress.
  • Keep the upkeep of equipment and furnishings, inform the Manager when replenishment is necessary, share housekeeping responsibilities, and assess equipment needs and make recommendations regarding purchases.
  • Report any signs of physical or mental abuse of any children in care to the proper authorities.
  • Perform housekeeping duties.

Requirements
  • Early Childhood Assistant Certificate or proof of completion of one year of Early Childhood Education program at a recognized Ontario College.
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C.
  • Health assessment, including up-to-date immunization records and TB test required.
