Software Development Professional

The Software Development Professional position is an entry-level role in Application Services at WCB Manitoba. As a Software Development Professional, you will assist in designing, developing, integrating, implementing, maintaining, and supporting custom software solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analysis & Design:
- Assist senior IT staff with analysis and design duties, including using prototyping techniques to evaluate requirements and creating analysis and design documents to document system structure and function.
- Analyze requirements for purchased software to determine configuration and customization.
- Prepare software specifications for development staff.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, such as reviews.
- Construction:
- Assist senior IT staff with construction duties, including creating, modifying, and assembling program code to meet requirements and specifications.
- Configure and customize purchased software.
- Test applications to ensure requirements are met.
- Produce documentation.
- Apply appropriate programming methods and adhere to standards.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, such as reviews.
- Support and Maintenance:
- Provide technical support for existing Computer Applications, including problem analysis/resolution, performance tuning, and handling requests from other functional areas within WCB Manitoba.
- Work with software vendors to resolve problems with their products.
- Monitor application performance, availability, reliability, and security.
- Provide technical expertise to IT and other WCB staff in the use of application development technology and tools.
- Apply appropriate programming methods and adhere to standards.
- Meet published Service Level Agreements and other targets.
- Quality Assurance and Control:
- Create and maintain test documentation as per standards and guidelines.
- Identify test strategy for projects.
- Identify test scope, tests, procedures for projects.
- Plan, prepare data, perform, and verify unit, integration, system, performance, scalability, benchmark, and user acceptance testing.
- Review work products and ensure standards and guidelines are adhered to.
Qualifications:
Two (2) year Diploma in Computers or four (4) year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from a recognized post-secondary institution, preferably from a program that has been accredited by CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society).
Three (3) months of experience building and supporting computer systems, preferably using development tools, methods, and techniques similar to those used by the WCB IT department.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships both within and outside WCB Manitoba.
Ability to accurately interpret and execute complex technical instructions and apply analytical, problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required.
