Interior Health Authority is seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Specialist to provide technical support for medical equipment across various healthcare facilities.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating new equipment, ensuring the safety of medical devices, repairing equipment, performing scheduled inspections and tests, and maintaining related records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair and calibrate biomedical equipment in a workshop or patient care area, providing support to clinical staff and patients as needed.
  • Perform scheduled safety and performance inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment.
  • Conduct incoming inspections of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with standards and department policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, travel, and parts used in service and support activities.
  • Travel to healthcare facilities to deliver biomedical equipment repair and maintenance services as directed.
  • Manage supply levels and order service parts for repair or inventory, completing purchase and inventory requisitions as needed.
  • Provide technical information to clinical, paramedical, and technical staff regarding safety, operation, maintenance, procurement, installation, and disposal of biomedical equipment.
  • Perform technical, performance, and safety evaluations on new biomedical equipment being considered for purchase.
  • Participate in biomedical equipment replacement planning by providing information on obsolete or high-failure-rate equipment.
  • Carry out corrective actions as required by Device Hazard Alerts and Recalls, identifying hazards involving medical equipment in clinical areas to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Carry out equipment performance and safety testing on equipment involved in incident investigations.
  • Attend designated service training courses and participate in other educational opportunities to maintain competence in new products and areas of expansion.
  • Work with and monitor manufacturers' service personnel during installation and warranty work to ensure compliance with facility policies and provincial codes.
