About the Role
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Psychiatric Worker with a degree in Behavioural Science to join the team at Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre in Vancouver, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specific aspects of psychiatric assessment and therapeutic care to clients with mental health needs, and establish client/family needs above all other concerns.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and revision of client care plans; participate in ward rounds/meetings as required; conduct observation rounds to ensure the safety of clients and staff; record and communicate client behaviours; identify the need for intervention; administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to established protocols.
- Participate in in-service education; respond to general inquiries; transport and accompany clients who are considered unsafe to be alone; assist with admissions; and provide personal care to clients when necessary under the direction of nursing staff.
About the Services at Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre - Mental Health & Substance Use Inpatient Units
The Segal Psychiatric Inpatient Units are located on Levels 5 to 8 in the Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre at Vancouver General Hospital. Psychiatric inpatient services provide assessment and treatment to adults who require acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting. There are 75 beds focused on clients who require longer-term, intensive treatment to return to their community. The length of stay is approximately five to 12 days.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduation from a recognized degree program in Behavioural Science plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
