Job Title: Food Safety Specialist

MT Talent Solutions Inc. is proud to partner with a leading food distributor to source a highly skilled Food Safety Specialist to join their Quality department.

The ideal candidate will possess a collaborative, analytical, and curious attitude, along with relevant experience and education in Food Safety. This is a full-time, on-site career opportunity with opportunities for growth and development within a talented and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the supplier approval program, ensuring the database is up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
  • Conduct risk evaluations and assessments of new suppliers, facilities, and countries of origin.
  • Assess supplier processing facilities for frozen produce and provide food safety approval or rejection based on MAP requirements, FSMA, and SFCR regulations.
  • Investigate supplier nonconformities, follow up on corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness.
  • Participate in establishing high-level standards for suppliers to ensure food safety.
  • Perform facility verification activities and virtual audits to ensure suppliers meet MAP requirements and GFSI certification standards.
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm mitigation of food safety and integrity gaps.
  • Review MRLs and spray programs to ensure compliance with destination standards.
  • Ensure compliance with labeling guidelines and destination standards.
  • Monitor approved product suppliers and contribute to KPIs to demonstrate their performance.
  • Support product recalls and manage mock recalls and traceability exercises as required.
  • Ensure quality compliance of incoming and outgoing samples.
  • Maintain an up-to-date supplier record library according to standard protocols.
  • Stay at the forefront of new technologies, developments, and scientific discoveries related to fresh and frozen businesses.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the supplier management system and support the implementation of new programs, processes, or initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a related food safety/quality role involving auditing.
  • Experience in frozen foods and/or produce-related manufacturing/distribution is preferred.
  • Relevant certification/qualification programs such as Lead Auditor, Internal Auditor, PCQI, ASQ, HACCP, etc. are strongly preferred.
  • Strong English communication skills are required, with other language skills such as French, Spanish, German, Mandarin being an asset.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized with a strong sense of values and integrity.
  • Proven ability to meet defined deadlines and adhere to required processes.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including full MS Office Suite, PowerBI, and Visio.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to supplier sites 10-20% of the time.
