The estimated salary for this position is $65,000-$85,000 per year, based on industry standards and the candidate's level of experience.

Job Description

As an HR Business Partner, you will play a key role in supporting multiple areas of the HR function, including employee relations, recruitment and selection, training and development, and performance management.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing sound technical knowledge of human resources disciplines, including employee relations, employment legislation, group benefits, disability management, and performance management;
  • Consulting with managers to ensure human resources best practices are aligned with the company's goals and visions;
  • Executing all aspects of the internal and external recruitment process for all business groups, locations, and divisions;
  • Developing candidate-sourcing strategies, preparing job postings, advertising open roles, screening resumes, conducting behavioral-based interviews, completing reference and background checks, and making hiring recommendations;
  • Preparing employment contracts and securing required approvals;
  • Maintaining an active and organized data bank of candidates for various positions (via JazzHR, our Applicant Tracking System);
  • Facilitating Orientation & Onboarding presentations for new employees as required;
  • Assisting with creating, managing, and facilitating employee training;
  • Updating employee training records when courses are complete;
  • Ensuring course evaluations are completed and information updated in spreadsheets;
  • Maintaining and making administrative changes to position descriptions as needed;
  • Participating in various transportation-related committees and organizations, staying updated on industry trends;
  • Exploring and leveraging government wage subsidy programs to support ASL employees and enhance workforce development;
  • Providing direction to management on the progressive disciplinary process, including the preparation of documentation;
  • Conducting workplace investigations and proposing recommended settlements;
  • Coaching and consulting with managers throughout the performance management process;
  • Partnering with business groups to facilitate SMART goals and performance review processes;
  • Partnering with Human Resources Manager to analyze and calibrate mid-year and year-end performance review forms to ensure employees are appropriately rated throughout the organization;
  • Administering progressive disciplinary action for selected business groups by participating in disciplinary and termination meetings in accordance with established procedures;
  • Conducting Exit Interviews with departing office and maintenance employees; tracking results to analyze trends and provide recommendations to improve non-driver turnover;
  • Gathering and analyzing employee data to complete reporting as required for ongoing company compliance, including Employer One Survey and Statistics Canada Survey;
  • Managing business group's annual Employment Equity submission;
  • Analyzing non-driver and driver data, which includes annualizing salaries, identifying NOC and NAICS codes, and identifying employees in each designated group;
  • Submitting detailed employee, promotion, and termination reports and completing variance analysis;
  • Completing the narrative report to comment on any variances from prior submissions and outlining the future strategy to remove barriers for the four designated groups;
  • Managing business group's annual Pay Equity submission;
  • Collaborating with the ASL Payroll department to ensure accurate benefits and RRSP deductions;
  • Generating ASL ROEs and assisting with payroll processing;
  • Partnering with Benefits & Disability Management Specialist regarding benefit plan, disability or other leaves of absences;
  • Preparing appropriate letters and documents as requested by employees and/or managers;
  • Updating employment manual and policies as required;
  • Providing support to the team on human resources functions, issues, and projects;
  • Performing other duties as required;

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in HR, Business Administration, or a related field;
  • A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation;
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years human resources generalist experience in various areas of HR, including employee relations, recruitment and selection, HR administration, and benefits administration;
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint);
  • Strong presentation skills with experience in facilitation;
  • Experience in the transportation industry considered to be an asset;
  • Ability to build systems and processes that create efficient and effective HR practices;
  • Detail and deadline-oriented, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment;
  • Ability to act with maturity and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information;
  • Strong verbal communication skills, relationship building, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proactive attitude; takes initiative to prevent issues and has a bias towards action;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at various levels;
  • A continuous improvement focus on work;
  • Well-organized, enthusiastic, professional, and a positive team member.
