Greenhouse Grower

We are seeking an experienced Greenhouse Grower to oversee all areas of crop production at Kaizen Lab Inc. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining optimal growing conditions, monitoring crop health, and implementing control measures to ensure high-quality plant production.
Key Responsibilities- Crop Management: Maintain irrigation, fertilizers, and climates for each crop's specific needs, ensuring optimal growth and development.
- Crop Monitoring: Regularly inspect growing conditions, discuss changes in climate, nutrition, and growth controls with the production team, and implement adjustments as needed.
- Space Preparation: Prepare growing spaces required for planned production, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.
- Crop Health Management: Monitor crop health for presence of pests, disease, or any other pathogens, and implement control measures when necessary.
- Chemical Application: Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides as directed, ensuring safe handling and application practices.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of monitoring and spraying in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Crop Evaluation: Evaluate plant health and growth rates, applying plant growth regulators (PGRs) when needed and adjusting feeding schedules to optimize crop performance.
- Environmental Monitoring: Monitor EC and PH levels in water and soil, ensuring optimal growing conditions.
- Crop Planning: Assist in crop planning and scheduling with the production manager, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.
- Equipment Maintenance: Inspect greenhouse equipment, ensuring regular maintenance is being performed to prevent downtime and optimize crop production.
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise other members of the growing team, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality crop production.
- Training and Development: Assist in training new employees in growing techniques and activities, ensuring a smooth transition into the role.
- Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies, participating in ongoing learning opportunities to stay up-to-date with industry best practices.
- Health and Safety: Abide by WorkSafe BC Joint Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
- Greenhouse Sanitation: Plan and execute greenhouse sanitation practices to maintain a clean and healthy growing environment.
- Minimum 10 Years of Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in a greenhouse, with extensive knowledge in plant health and understanding of pathogens and control measures, fertilizers, and irrigation.
- Leadership and Communication Skills: Excellent leadership and mentoring qualities, with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions when identifying plant diseases and insects.
- Legally Permitted to Work in Canada: Legally permitted to work in Canada, with a willingness to work weekends or evenings on rotation (on-call).
