About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Analyst to join our team at the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. As a key member of our Enterprise Tax team, you will play a critical role in ensuring our compliance with all tax obligations, including Canadian, income taxes, indirect taxes, and withholding taxes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Associate Director, Enterprise Tax in managing HOOPP's tax compliance and reporting responsibilities, including income tax and withholding tax.
  • Prepare Canadian income tax returns and related tax filings and forms.
  • Coordinate the preparation of income tax returns by liaising with internal stakeholders and external portfolio companies to collect and provide tax information to external tax service providers.
  • Review tax returns and supporting working papers prepared by external tax service providers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and manage tax requests, including FATCA, CRS, W8, consent form, and certificate of residency.
  • Manage the collection process for K-1 tax slips and relevant tax forms.
  • Manage all tax authority's correspondences, such as tax assessment notices, and proactively interact with tax authorities and external tax advisors to resolve tax compliance issues.
  • Interact with internal stakeholders to manage the tax payment and tax refund processes.
  • Develop and maintain tax planning schedules and process documentation.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and ensure appropriate integration into tax filings and positions.
  • Manage external tax advisors to ensure deliverables are met and are in line with HOOPP's expectations.
  • Assist in the preparation of various tax reports.
  • Identify tax risks and opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax compliance process and provide recommendations to the Associate Director and Tax team.
  • Assist in projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of tax experience, including a minimum of 2 years of tax experience.
  • University degree in business, commerce, or finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • Investment industry experience is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
