The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Lab Specialist to join our team in the Overhead Conductors Lab. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical support and testing services, focusing on test development, construction, operation, and analysis for Overhead Transmission/Distribution Conductor testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and electrical type tests, R&D testing, investigations, and technical studies for customers in various disciplines.
  • Prepare samples, set up and execute tests, and provide mechanical and electrical expertise for testing projects.
  • Install and repair equipment, instrumentation, and test fixtures, and maintain the test labs and related facilities.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following quality and safety protocols.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as word processing and maintaining filing and record systems.

Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical Technician or Technologist diploma (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related test laboratory experience or equivalent advanced education.
  • Understanding of transmission line components and related tests.
  • Experience testing and handling traditional and HTLS conductors, including epoxy terminations and hardware installation.
  • Experience using LabView and NI Instruments for data acquisition.
  • Experience working under ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 quality programs.

About You

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement techniques.
  • Physically fit and able to move/lift/rearrange heavy items up to 50 lb.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Self-motivated and strong prioritizing and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
