We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at IKO Industries Ltd. in Brampton, Canada.

**Job Summary**

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and continuously improving Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs on a day-to-day basis. This is an on-the-floor position that requires strong technical and professional support services to operations.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including general public, government agencies, insurance carriers, and consultants, to represent the company on health, safety, and environmental subjects.
  • Lead, coordinate, and review environmental-related approvals such as Environmental Compliance Approvals and Construction/Operating permits.
  • Provide advice and guidance to internal stakeholders, including Engineering Department, Manufacturing staff, and other departments on health, safety, and environmental subjects.
  • Conduct technical health and safety assessments on various plant issues, including but not limited to machine guarding, lockout tagout, hot work, confined space, fall protection, PPE, cranes and lifting devices, forklifts, industrial hygiene, noise, contractor management, fire protection, first aid, emergency response, etc.
  • Review processes related to health, safety, and environmental subjects and provide continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Responsible for completing annual air emission reports for all North American manufacturing plants.
  • Provide expert interpretation and be proactive in following changes to acts, regulations, policies, guidelines, and other requirements relating to health, safety, and environmental subjects.
  • Lead investigations to ensure root causes of environmental, health, and safety incidents are identified and appropriate corrective actions are implemented to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Drive results at lower complexity and cost.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with plant personnel to solve problems, implement continuous improvement, and follow up on audit action plans, serious incident investigations, incident rates, and severity rates.
  • Guide sites to continually improve injury statistics to reach a goal of zero injuries.
  • Subject matter expert on behavior-based safety programs and systems for the organization.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain corporate HSE standards, policies, rules, procedures, and programs.

**What We Offer:**

We offer a competitive salary range of $90,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience, along with excellent benefits, including competitive health, dental, and insurance plans, a matched retirement savings program, and the opportunity to work with an industry leader in manufacturing.

**Ideal Candidate Profile:**

To be successful in this role, you will have a post-secondary degree in Engineering (preferably in Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical) or a related field, such as Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Health. You must also have:

  • Eligibility for professional licensing, such as a Professional Engineer or CSP/CRSP/CMSE.
  • At least 5 years of HSE experience in a continuous improvement manufacturing environment with a proven track record of measurable results.
  • Able and willing to travel within North America, approximately 30% of the work is out-of-office, with regular travel outside Ontario.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in the English language.
  • Project management experience from inception to completion.
  • Working knowledge of current Canadian and US OHS and environmental laws and standards.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
