Industrial Automation Controls Specialist

As we accelerate our global growth, we are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Automation Controls Specialist to join our team in Port Colborne, Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new plant start-up and contribute to the development of our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
The RoleWe are looking for a seasoned professional with expertise in electrical controls and instrumentation design to lead the automation of our manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing construction and capital projects from concept to closure, providing technical leadership in control system engineering, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage construction and capital projects from concept to closure.
- Provide technical expertise in control system engineering, including design, implementation, programming, configuration, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Specify equipment control systems and process functions for new equipment.
- Design instrumentation and controls for machinery and facilities.
- Specify PLC system architecture for new installations.
- Support PLC programmers with machine control concepts and hardware selection.
- Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines on electrical and instrumentation designs.
- Update electrical drawings in the document control system.
- SUPPORT maintenance personnel with troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation breakdowns.
- Evaluate the performance of instrumentation and controls systems and recommend improvements and cost savings.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness among all employees throughout the project process.
- Apply knowledge of safe work practices and environments.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical, controls, and instrumentation design in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Previous experience with capital projects is required; experience with new site construction is preferred.
- Ability to apply mathematical and engineering principles and methods to electrical system designs.
- Strong knowledge and experience of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing, and analysis of control equipment.
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD (standard or electrical) and MS Office products.
- Knowledge and application of NEC, ISA, NEMA codes and standards.
- Familiarity with the application and design of PLCs, HMI, VFDs, and instrumentation.

Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off. Travel opportunities are available up to 15% domestically and abroad for training and visiting other company locations.
