General Counsellor Role

COSTI Immigrant Services is seeking a skilled General Counsellor to join our Resettlement Assistance Program team. As a key member of our team, you will provide essential support services to refugees and asylum seekers, helping them settle and integrate into Canadian society.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide grief and supportive counselling to clients, as well as follow-up services in special needs cases.
  • Advocate and case consult with other social service organizations and service providers to ensure clients receive comprehensive support.
  • Facilitate clients' post-departure services needs, including registration and referral to follow-up services.
  • Document records of services and activities in COSTI's database system and prepare necessary reports.
  • Refer clients to community and social service agencies for additional settlement and legal services.
Requirements:
  • Social Services Worker diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing initial settlement counselling.
  • Demonstrated experience providing workshops on rules and regulations of living in a shelter facility, accessing services in the community, health and safety, and use of public transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Provincial and Federal Services for refugee clients or asylum seekers.
  • Demonstrated experience providing emotional supportive counselling and advocating on behalf of refugees in accessing government and non-government services and health care.
Assets:
  • Fluency in Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Somali, Amharic, or Spanish.
  • Demonstrated experience in data-entry, documentation, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Internet, Email, and Windows software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a current First Aid/CPR training certificate.
