Job Title: Technical Engineering Manager - Reactivity Control Units

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technical Engineering Manager - Reactivity Control Units. You will be responsible for all aspects of engineering related to design engineering of reactivity control units for a new large CANDU design project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in Reactivity Control Units design engineering, including preparation of technical specifications, drawings, design specifications, bill of materials, and design certifications.
  • Provide technical expertise on code and standard requirements, such as CSA N285 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
  • Develop project scope and deliverable definition in compliance with governing contract documents, quality requirements, and customer requirements.
  • Make decisions and recommendations on resourcing requirements and work with functional managers to assign engineering resources.
  • Develop and implement strategies for outsourcing engineering scope within their scope of responsibility with business partners.
  • Ensure an appropriate combination of skills and experience is maintained within the project to provide technical leadership and specialized expertise.
  • Make recommendations on human resource issues and effectively manage and resolve work performance problems.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations regarding technical staff performance to functional home.
  • Support functional managers in mentoring, training, developing, motivating, coaching, and evaluating the performance of staff.
  • Foster a good working relationship with staff and managers in the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Divisions and other Divisions.
  • Work with the Project Manager to plan work, ensure resource availability and allocation, assign tasks, and progress reporting against deliverables.
  • Review and approve project-related documents and drawings, ensuring technical work is performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and company quality assurance manual.
  • Provide strong leadership within the project team and within the company for aspects related to Reactivity Control Units engineering.
  • Interface with national regulatory bodies (CNSC and TSSA) and international regulatory bodies such as KINS ISCIR, CNCAN, etc.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Raise scope changes and critical issues to the PTD, PM, Director of the Reactor Division, and relevant functional managers.
  • Lead assigned engineers to find solutions for technical issues, engaging additional help from Functional Engineering if needed.
Requirements:
  • University bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years technical experience in the CANDU Reactor field.
  • Knowledgeable in CANDU reactor reactivity control units.
  • Demonstrated skills in the leadership of a highly technical group.
  • Ability to resolve technical issues.
  • Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
  • Knowledge of reconciliation and registration processes is preferred.
  • Experienced in stress analysis and FEA methods alongside other design activities.
  • Knowledge in finite element analysis techniques and codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA will be beneficial.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Willing to visit project sites to meet project and operational needs.
