About Us: Closer to Home Community Services is a non-profit agency delivering services to meet the unique needs of vulnerable children and their families. We envision a future where every child thrives within supportive family and community relationships by:
- Uncovering strength, hope, and healing, and creating new possibilities for a brighter future for children and families.
- Providing strength-based and family-centered services that strive to preserve, reunify, and build stronger families who can care for their children and contribute meaningfully in their community.
About the Position: This full-time live-in position in your own home is a unique opportunity to positively impact children and families. As a Foster Parent, your primary objective is to provide specialized treatment-oriented family-based care for children who may otherwise be placed in more structured programs. You will follow all legislative and agency-mandated policies and procedures involved in the care of foster children and participate fully in the process of family reunification, if appropriate. The comprehensive screening/selection process includes criminal record checks, child welfare intervention checks, and a home study with your family.
Benefits: Enjoy a tax-free per diem, pre-service training, 24/7 on-call support, a team environment, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
About You: As an individual or couple, you possess the desire to serve your community and connect with individuals needing support. You have verbal and written communication skills, the ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages, and a compassionate and caring approach. In addition, you are eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.
Requirements: Experience working with vulnerable children and families or the willingness and ability to develop your knowledge and skills is required. You must be willing to provide day-to-day care for one youth, attend meetings, and respond to crisis. Current and valid Standard First Aid/CPR, valid Alberta Driver's Licenses, adequate and current insurance, and a willingness to provide driver's abstracts upon hire are necessary. Additionally, a SAFE Assessment, a Police Information Check, and an Intervention Record Check must be completed and approved before hire.
