Job DescriptionThe Occupational Health Strategist plays a critical role in promoting staff wellness and preventing illness and injury in the workplace. This position works collaboratively with the Occupational Health Practitioner to develop and implement occupational health initiatives that align with our organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and execute wellness initiatives under the direction of the Occupational Health Practitioner and the Vice President, Risk, Quality, and Clinical Transformation.
Liaise with external wellness providers to schedule programs and maintain program registration.
Evaluate the effectiveness of wellness initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement.
Create opportunities for employees to enhance their personal health and well-being through various mediums.
Provide counseling and/or referral services for employees with physical and emotional needs impacting their job performance and/or workplace.
Promote staff participation in wellness activities and solicit feedback from employees.
Perform pre-placement health assessments and provide first aid for work-related injuries or health issues.
Liaise with Infection Control on issues of staff exposure and prevention of exposure to infections.
Support the annual flu vaccination campaign and other department initiatives promoting wellness.
Assist and consult with employee health physicians as required.
Conduct orientation for new staff on all aspects of occupational health.
Participate in a team approach to prevent illness and injury in the workplace.
Facilitate education sessions with staff and managers on occupational health issues.
Provide technical advice and guidance to staff on health issues.
Interpret and promote compliance with government legislation.
Maintain health records/documentation for all staff.
Ensure confidentiality of employee health records and information.
Maintain appropriate reporting systems.
Assist in the development of organization-wide policies and procedures relating to occupational health and wellness issues.
Liaise with Public Health as required.
Qualifications:
Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Nursing.
Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) preferred.
Current BCLS/First Aid Certificate.
Minimum two (2) years of recent experience in Occupational Health or Disability Management field.
Occupational Health experience in a hospital environment preferred.
Experience in health promotion and wellness programs.
