About the Role

As a Mental Health Specialist with BCMHSUS, you will be working with individuals who require complex mental health and substance use support. Your role will involve conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing counseling services to clients.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Mental Health Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Master of Social Work degree, experience working in healthcare settings, and current registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psycho-social assessments, including interviewing clients and gathering relevant information.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and provide counseling services to clients.
  • Collaborate with care management personnel to facilitate case management and ensure effective discharge planning.
  • Provide consultative and direct services to clients, families, and community health professionals on issues such as adult guardianship, advanced directives, domestic violence, abuse or neglect, immigration, housing, financial concerns, and matters concerning government agencies and authorities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including documenting client assessments, interventions, evaluations, modifications, and client goals.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Master of Social Work degree from an accredited school of social work.
  • One year of post-Bachelor of Social Work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
  • Strong understanding of systems thinking, research methodology, counseling skills, clinical practice models, family and group therapy, and legislation related to clients.
