Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze medical information from patients, family members, and other medical professionals to identify diseases and injuries.
  • Examine patients' health conditions to determine the most appropriate medical treatment.
  • Order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures to evaluate patients' physical and mental health.
  • Consult with other medical practitioners to develop treatment plans and provide patient care.
  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments to patients.
  • Participate in health care policy and planning to improve patient outcomes.
  • Deliver babies and provide pre-natal and post-natal care to patients.
  • Advise patients on health care and provide education on healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Report births, deaths, contagious diseases, and other health-related information to government authorities.
  • Be a patient advocate and provide support to patients and their families.
  • Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care and provide acute care management.
  • Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues.
  • Supervise home care services and staff in various areas of responsibility.
Requirements:
  • Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry.
  • Licence to practice medicine in the province or territory.
  • College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP) or equivalent.
  • Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) or equivalent.
  • Provincial or territorial licensure.
  • Criminal record check, Child Abuse Registry check, and Vulnerable Sector check.
