This position offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful initiatives that foster meaningful relationships with over 50 First Nations in the region, driven by a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

About the Role:

The Senior Advisor for Indigenous Relations and Project Management will manage Indigenous consultation activities for highway projects with high economic value, risk for legal challenges, or political impacts.

This role involves carrying out consultations and negotiations to address and/or mitigate Indigenous concerns while minimizing any negative impacts on projects.

The position also manages reconciliation of highway right-of-way through reserve lands, including delivery of reserve acquisition for highway projects and resolving outstanding tenure matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Indigenous consultation activities for highway projects
  • Carry out consultations and negotiations to address and/or mitigate Indigenous concerns
  • Reconcile highway right-of-way through reserve lands
  • Deliver reserve acquisition for highway projects
  • Resolve outstanding tenure matters

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Indigenous Relations, First Nations Studies, Engineering, Geography, Social Sciences, or Public Administration, and one (1) year of related experience, or
  • Diploma in Indigenous Relations, First Nations Studies, Engineering, Geography, Social Sciences, or Public Administration, and three (3) years of related experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with property acquisition, contract services, and tenure-related negotiations is an asset.

Benefits:

The BC Public Service offers a competitive salary range of $83,071.72 - $94,752.42 annually, plus flexible work options, and an eligibility list may be established to fill both current and future permanent vacancies.
