Job Summary

The Community Mental Health Worker provides comprehensive psychosocial support to individuals referred to the mental health program for mental health-related issues. This role serves as a welcoming entry point for clients and referral sources, promoting therapeutic relationships through the service engagement process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychosocial assessments, consultations, and evidence-informed counseling interventions and psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Operate within a collaborative care structure, providing time-limited, goal-oriented, change-focused interventions and/or consultations
  • Engage in ongoing education and maintain competency congruent with Southern Health-Santé Sud policies, professional standards of practice, and relevant legislation
  • Exercise independent judgment in determining work priorities, methods, and actions on unusual matters
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited post-secondary education in Health-Related Social Sciences
  • Active license and registration to practice as required by professional association and provincial legislation
  • Certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST)
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of mental health services
  • Advanced mental health psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of evidence-informed therapeutic counseling models
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of programs and other technological applications
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervised counseling experience
Working Conditions
  • Completes and maintains a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00
