Job Details
  • Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada
  • Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires full-time work, either in a hybrid or onsite structure, for 37.5 hours a week throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term.
  • Duration: 4 months, January 06 - April 25, 2025
Responsibilities

As a Firmware Engineering intern/co-op, you will work with our team to support, design, develop, and deliver firmware for AMD's discrete and embedded products. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Crafting, implementing, debugging, and validating features on reference hardware and software, pre-silicon emulation, and simulation environments.
  • Participating in design reviews, code reviews, and project planning.
  • Building and completing clear documentation for all software produced.
  • Working on both internal and external platforms.
  • Learning and applying AGILE methodologies and standard processes for Software Engineering.
  • Engaging in x86 firmware development using C, designing, building, and implementing embedded firmware and bootrom/HW, and debugging issues at the boundary of FW and HW.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a Canada-based University in a Bachelor's degree program majoring in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge or experience with technical skills such as low-level BIOS, firmware, or system software development, low-level programming languages C/C++, and hardware architectures, embedded systems, RTOS, and embedded controller structure, source control, debuggers, compilers, and system-wide debugging from software to firmware to hardware, open-source concepts, VHDL/Verilog/FPGA and general hardware design concepts and process, Linux development environments, and architectural understanding and/or experience of graphics/compute pipelines.
