Main Purpose & Function

The Health Facility Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and respectful delivery of personal hygiene programs and services at the Gathering Place Health Centre. This position involves assisting patrons in accessing essential services, including laundry, showers, and first aid, while maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise volunteers in the Health Centre, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Health Centre Staff and Volunteer Program Staff to address volunteer issues, concerns, and scheduling.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with patrons, volunteers, housing operators, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Ensure all equipment in the department is in clean, safe operating condition and report any needs for repair to the Health Centre Coordinator.
  • Monitor patron behavior and ensure Centre rules and standards of behavior are being observed, reporting to security as needed.
Requirements
  • Completion of the eleventh school grade, preferably with experience in dealing with socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.
  • St. John Ambulance Safety Certificate.
  • Understanding of the needs and challenges of persons impacted by marginalization, including poverty, homelessness, and social isolation.
  • Ability to assess patron's hygiene needs, including assessing clients for lice, scabies, and bedbugs, and providing accurate information regarding necessary procedures.
  • Ability to administer basic first aid and maintain applicable records.
  • Working knowledge of community resources available to patrons.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to deal effectively with difficult or potentially volatile situations.
