Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer

Vertex is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the technical execution of geotechnical engineering projects across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for pipeline and linear infrastructure projects, including assessments related to roads, pipelines, powerlines, telecommunication towers, foundation assessment and design, oilsands operations, residential and commercial developments, constructed ponds, developments in muskeg, and linear development crossing assessments.
  • Conduct engineering assessments for slope instability, including familiarity with landslide susceptibility, risk assessments, soil characteristics, and factor of safety.
  • Create recommendations for geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring of geohazards.
  • Coordinate with drillers and geotechnical labs.
  • Mentor junior engineers to support geotechnical field activities.
  • Travel for conducting site investigations in the field when required.
  • Review and assess lab results.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project success.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop new client base and growth of the business.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of professional work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering.
  • Licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Knowledge and working experience with applicable regulations, codes, and guidelines such as CFEM, CHBDC, OPSS, OBC, etc.
  • Experience in the use of commercially available software packages for the assessment of slope stability.
  • Experience in geotechnical design and preparing investigation reports.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft products.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario driver's license.
