We are seeking an exceptional Autonomous Materials Research Lead to join our team at the University of Toronto. This is a unique opportunity to pioneer cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence-driven materials discovery, shaping the future of sustainable technologies.

About the Role:

  • Lead Research Initiatives: Collaborate with our esteemed faculty and industry partners to drive innovative research programs leveraging our self-driving labs (SDLs) for materials and molecule discovery.
  • Develop AI-Powered Solutions: Develop customized hardware and software packages to build SDLs, selecting, procuring, and installing equipment required for these cutting-edge labs.
  • Facility Management: Work closely with our Department of Chemistry, Facilities, and Operations to ensure our AC labs are fully operational, overseeing laboratory technicians, managing budgets, and scheduling lab access.

About You:

  • Ph.D. in Relevant Field: Holding a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, life sciences, physics, engineering, robotics, computer science, or related discipline.
  • 10+ Years of R&D Experience: With significant experience in Physical, Material, Medicinal, and/or Analytical Artificial Intelligence for Chemistry, Materials, or Drug Discovery.
  • Exceptional Expertise: Strong knowledge of AI and automation, with experience overseeing lab activities, working with industry partners, and presenting research at academic conferences.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage research staff, laboratory budgets, and procurement of equipment.
