About the Role:

The Infection Prevention and Control Educator is a key member of our team at Extendicare Canada Inc., responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for healthcare professionals in long-term care settings.

Job Summary:

This is a full-time position that requires a highly motivated individual with expertise in infection prevention and control. The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Nursing or a related field, current certification from the College of Nurses of Ontario, and experience in leadership roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Educational Programs: Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for clinical staff, families/caregivers, and students on standards of practice, quality assurance, best practices, and policy development.
  • Training and Education: Create, modify, distribute, monitor, and evaluate curriculum/training for clinical staff, IPAC, and other stakeholders. Facilitate training/education on infection prevention and control principles and practices, infectious diseases, prevention strategies, and vaccinations.
  • Needs Assessments and Planning: Conduct annual staff needs assessments, determine skills gaps, and create education plans and calendars to ensure mandatory and ongoing training needs are met.
  • Education Calendars and Training Programs: Prepare and execute education calendars to meet training needs and develop training programs related to areas of concern or improvement identified through audits, complaints, and regulatory reviews.
  • Collaboration and On-Site Education: Collaborate with departments to provide education/training strategies and tactics related to departmental policies and procedures. Conduct on-the-spot education and training on infection prevention and control standards and protocols.
  • Evaluation and Record-Keeping: Review and evaluate online clinical and IPAC education to ensure proper implementation, compliance, and relevancy. Retain education records and update employee skills/training documentation.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Develop awareness campaigns for clinical and IPAC programs, organizing education campaigns and providing education to staff and others as needed.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Related Field: A Master's degree in Nursing or a related field is required.
  • Current Certification: Current certification from the College of Nurses of Ontario is essential.
  • Leadership Experience: A minimum of 2 years of long-term care experience, with 3-5 years of leadership experience in professional practice, is required.
  • IPAC Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of IPAC education and experience in infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, reporting protocols, outbreak management, asepsis, microbiology, adult education, epidemiology, and program management is required.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills, are essential.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task, prioritize work, meet deadlines, be detail-oriented, and accurate, are required.
  • Police Reference Check: A police reference check for the vulnerable sector is necessary.

Estimated Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
