Job Description

Verrus is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Vice President of Exploration to lead our exploration efforts and drive the strategic development of our gold projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the overall exploration strategy, with a current focus on brownfield exploration and testing the system to depth.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align exploration activities with corporate objectives and long-term growth plans.
  • Oversee the design, planning, and execution of exploration programs, including drilling campaigns, geological modeling, and resource estimation.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to the Exploration Manager and onsite team to ensure exploration activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and within budget.
  • Ensure the advancement of the geological framework and integration of exploration data into the corporate resource model.
  • Lead the assessment and interpretation of geological data, with a focus on testing the current system to depth and expanding resources beyond the current 200m depth.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and apply innovative exploration techniques to optimize resource discovery and expansion.
  • Provide expert guidance on geophysical and geochemical surveys, core logging, and drill target generation.
  • Serve as the primary exploration link between the head office in Vancouver and the site team, ensuring clear communication and alignment of exploration goals.
  • Determine the appropriate balance of on-site presence and remote management, based on project needs and security considerations.
  • Foster positive relationships with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support the successful execution of exploration programs.
  • Champion a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the exploration team, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and corporate policies.
  • Collaborate with the onsite security team to ensure the safety and security of exploration personnel and assets.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of exploration experience in the mining industry, with a strong focus on gold deposits.
  • Proven track record of success in both brownfield and greenfield exploration projects, preferably in West Africa or similar geological environments.
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role, with the ability to manage and mentor exploration teams.
  • Deep technical expertise in geological exploration, resource estimation, and drill program management.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and the ability to adapt to changing project needs.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory, environmental, and social aspects of exploration in West Africa is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel to site as required, with flexibility regarding time spent onsite.
