Aquatic Leader 1

Job Summary:

The City of Burnaby is seeking an Aquatic Leader 1 to assist in directing the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs in our indoor and outdoor pools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, check, and participate in the work of Lifeguard/Instructor Aquatics engaged in instructional, lifeguarding, minor maintenance, and custodial tasks.
  • Participate in the planning, organization, and promotion of aquatic programs; evaluate and recommend changes to various instructional, competitive, and recreational aquatic programs for all ages.
  • Develop and implement program development and promotion strategies.
  • Maintain related records and reports.

Requirements:

  • Completed grade 12, supplemented by courses in lifeguarding, aquatics instruction, and pool operation and maintenance.
  • Sound related lifeguarding experience, including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR C) Certificates.
  • Additional certifications like Swim Instructor Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Leader, Pool Operator, etc. are an asset.

Working Conditions:

This is an auxiliary position with hours and shifts dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on an as needed basis. Typical shifts are minimum four hours in length between operating hours of 5:30am – 11:00pm Monday to Sunday.
