About the Role

The Michener Institute of Education at UHN is seeking a Counsellor to Students to join our Student Success Network team. As a key member of our team, you will provide academic and personal support to post-secondary students enrolled in allied health programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of academic and personal services and supports to students, including mental health support and guidance.
  • Develop and support workshops for students and staff to foster a positive and nurturing environment.
  • Assess and address various issues and concerns, implementing relevant strategies and techniques to support student growth and development.
  • Practice multiple modalities, including anti-oppressive practice, psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, trauma-informed, and somatic counselling models.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counselling (in Education, Psychology, or Social Work).
  • Membership in a professional counselling organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of post-secondary student issues and challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in group counselling and workshop facilitation.
  • Knowledge of common transition challenges for young adults.
  • High levels of skills in assessing, supporting, and engaging in short to medium-term counselling with students experiencing mental health concerns.
  • Commitment to on-site counselling and supervising beginning counsellors.
  • Knowledge and experience working with post-secondary environment school stresses.
