Senior Accountant Job Description

Echelon 56 is a leading provider of Personal and Commercial Specialty Insurance solutions in Canada.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this role is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing monthly analysis of entity result variances to verify the completeness and accuracy of financial statements.
  • Account Reconciliation – preparing monthly and quarterly reconciliations and adjusting entries to balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Overseeing cash flow requirements for entity and related administration duties.
  • Reviewing monthly fixed assets and prepaid schedules.
  • Assisting with monthly, quarterly and year-end general accounting and reporting.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, audits, and any other quarterly/annual reporting requirements such as notes, analysis, commentaries and supporting documents.
  • Regulatory reporting – preparing and assisting in quarterly and annual P&C1 statements and worksheets.
  • Year-end Audit functions – preparing working papers for auditors review, discussing variances, if any and providing explanations.
  • Leading the implementation of the accounting module in SAP, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable which track financial transactions.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must have:

  • A University degree in Accounting or Business related discipline.
  • Experience in SAP implementations required. Understanding and mapping business processes into SAP functionality is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook.
  • Work experience in a P&C insurance industry is required and familiarity with IFRS 17.
  • Working knowledge of Investment and Derivative accounting.
  • Ability to communicate accounting and finance information to stakeholders.
