Accountabilities

  • As a key member of the Whitetooth Grill team, you will be responsible for leading the kitchen in the absence of the Chef, ensuring seamless communication with front-of-house staff.
  • You will assess the needs for preparation work and supplies prior to service, communicating any issues to the manager in a timely manner.
  • Food safety and quality are paramount in this role, and you will ensure that all food is received, stored, handled, and prepared in a hygienic and compliant manner.
  • You will be responsible for updating inventory lists for communication to the manager and ensuring that closing procedures are fully completed for all stations.
  • Maintaining a delivery list for items to be delivered is also a critical aspect of this role.
  • You will prepare, cook, and plate food to established standards for quality and presentation, ensuring that all dishes meet the high expectations of our guests.
  • Participating in team orientation, team meetings, regular cleaning, and season-end clean and close procedures is essential in this role.
  • You will assist the Chef with supervision and training of kitchen staff, as well as assist with inventory and menu development as needed.
  • Maintaining effective communication throughout the restaurant and with teammates is crucial in this role.
  • You will ensure that all cooks maintain a clean and safe workspace at all times, and support other team members in their roles as necessary.
  • Planning and developing catering events, wine dinners, and other special functions is also a key responsibility in this role.

    Requirements

    • 3 years of previous experience in a food preparation role in a professional dining establishment is required.
    • Previous experience leading a line and ensuring food and presentation standards are maintained is essential.
    • A love of food and cooking is a must, and culinary training, education, or a diploma is an asset.
    • Food Safe or other food handling certification is also an asset.

    Working Conditions

    • This role requires the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evening hours.
    • Physical ability to move around and stand for extended periods, with some light lifting required.
