Job Overview


The Providence Health Care is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Career Development Specialist to join our team. This role plays a vital part in promoting a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
As a Nursing Career Development Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing patient/resident status through various methods, including reviewing patient/resident charts, observing patients/residents, interviewing patients/residents and family members, completing questionnaires, gathering collateral information, and consulting with peers and other healthcare team members. Your duties will include assessing patient/resident problems and needs, planning, implementing, evaluating, and prioritizing nursing care and interventions, developing the plan of care for patients/residents using clinical judgment and evidence-based practice, providing nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology, and PHC standards, monitoring patient/resident progress, evaluating outcomes, reassessing if goals are not met, and modifying the plan of care based on evaluation, documenting information, including assessments, plans of care, patient/resident status, and progress, identifying and responding to patient/resident and family learning needs, providing patient educational and reference materials, incorporating individual and/or group teaching activities into the care plan and nursing interventions, leading group patient/family sessions as required, coaching patients/residents/families to develop and maintain health-promoting behaviors within the context of the care issue, providing direction to other staff regarding patient/resident care, facilitating effective teamwork on units, participating in nursing orientation, sharing clinical knowledge with other nursing staff, nursing students, and other interdisciplinary team members, participating in planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/resident care policies, procedures, education materials, and best practices, supporting nursing research, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you must possess current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1-2 years of medical/surgical experience, preferably 2 years. You should also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service, work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, apply decision-making and analytical skills, deal with others effectively, role-model conflict resolution strategies, carry out the physical demands of the position, prioritize and organize work, operate related equipment, teach and identify patient/resident learning needs, lead patient/family group sessions, provide clinical direction, and support post-basic education funding for eligible applicants.

Salary and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary of approximately $85,000 per year, plus benefits that align with the provincial health authority's compensation package. As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
