About Us:
The BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is a rapidly growing organization dedicated to reducing the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system. We work closely with 204 First Nations in BC and have established partnerships with provincial and federal governments. Our mandate is to empower Nations as they move towards sovereignty over justice.

Position Summary:
This role will focus on child protection matters, providing legal representation to clients who would otherwise lack access to such services. You will work closely with Indigenous clients, their families, and communities to develop and propose alternate care plans that prioritize family unity and cultural preservation. In addition to this, you will also provide advocacy services for clients charged with criminal offenses, ensuring they receive culturally safe and supportive programs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal representation for child protection and criminal matters to vulnerable populations;
- Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, service providers, and government agencies to ensure access to culturally relevant programs;
- Collaborate with local, provincial, and federal agencies to create innovative solutions for Indigenous justice;
- Work with clients and their support teams to design and implement culturally grounded care plans;
- Compile and submit statistical data as required;

Qualifications and Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will require;
- A member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia;
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent experience;
- At least one to five years of litigation experience, preferably in child protection law;
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and BC-specific laws, including the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Gladue principles;
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and the importance of culturally safe practices;
- Self-motivated individual with excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills;

Benefits:
This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 - $150,000 per annum, commensurate with education and experience. Additional benefits include health and dental insurance, paid vacation time, and RRSP/TFSA savings plans. Location:
