Island Health seeks an experienced Pediatric Consultant to join its team in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This is a unique opportunity to establish a consulting community practice with a manageable on-call schedule.

The successful candidate will work closely with a dedicated pediatric ward and new outpatient facility at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (224 acute beds). The hospital features a state-of-the-art 9-bed, level 2b NICU, providing provincial beds to infants >32 weeks gestation, including short-term ventilation and TPN.

Nanaimo offers an excellent climate and a wide array of recreational activities, making it an attractive location for families. The medical community provides opportunities for teaching and is home to the UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site.

Job Description:

This full-time position involves providing expert pediatric consultation services to patients and healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and excellent communication abilities.

  • Consult with pediatricians, family physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care
  • Participate in educational activities, such as teaching residents and attending conferences
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of [estimated salary: $250,000 - $300,000] per annum, commensurate with experience
  • A degree in pediatrics or a related field
  • Current certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
  • Demonstrated expertise in pediatric care and education
