Casual Food and Hospitality Services Assistant

This position will be based at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in Ridgetown, ON. Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Food and Hospitality Services Assistant will be responsible for food preparation and serving, kitchen maintenance, and hospitality services for the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support at Steckley Hall front desk, general hospitality services, and support services at events for stakeholders and clients.
  • Assist with banquets and large-scale functions, provide catering responsibilities, and operate the point-of-sale system while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain the food services areas, including cleaning, warewashing, and stocking supplies.
  • Serve clients and operate the point-of-sale system while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Prepare and assemble salads, desserts, dressings, and special menu items; cook pasta, potatoes, eggs, stir-fry food, and make sandwiches.
  • Use deep fat fryers, grills, steamers, and/or ovens and other kitchen equipment; record temperatures and monitor amounts prepared/amounts left over.
  • Maintain all food items at proper temperatures and respond to client requests for service, special diets, and other information in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, especially in kitchen and dining areas, which may include sweeping, scrubbing, cleaning tables, countertops, washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, and ensuring the safety of food and food contact surfaces while maintaining sanitation standards.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School and one year of experience and familiarity with specialized cooking equipment, point-of-sale systems, and general practices related to food services.
  • WHMIS, Food Handlers Certificate, and First Aid required.
  • Knife handling, customer service skills, and knowledge of cleaning chemicals/equipment required.

Hourly Rate: $18.11 – $20.22 per hour
