About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at The Royal Mental Health Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will provide exceptional nursing care to patients with psychiatric/mental health illnesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient needs and develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary team.
  • Provide supportive nursing care consistent with patient treatment/rehabilitation needs and goals.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments within the RPN's full scope of practice.
  • Document accurate reports of data collection, interpretation, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
  • Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to effectively manage rapidly changing situations.
  • Establish and promote effective therapeutic relationships between staff members, patients, and their families.
  • Identify patient needs and respond to them appropriately and promptly.
  • Maximize the person's function, participation, and control in their recovery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and practice of program policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and mental health best practices.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum of two years recent experience with adults with psychiatric/mental health illness preferred.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Ability to perform full Registered Practical Nursing functions on all units at BMHC.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • WHMIS and Fire training update in the preceding 12 months.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Act.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check for vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
What We Offer

The Royal Mental Health Centre offers a competitive salary range of $35.36 to $37.05 per hour. As a designated Rural Community Hospital, Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses working at Brockville Mental Health Centre may be eligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program.
