About the Role

We are seeking an experienced senior fashion designer to join our team in Montreal. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for researching market trends, identifying fabric and trim trends, and developing style boards to present to our VP.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research women's sportswear industry to inform product ideation and conception.
  • Identify fabric, yarn, and trim trends, projecting fashion essentials and silhouettes by month and season.
  • Shop markets and retail landscapes to identify fabrics, trims, details, and silhouettes for style development.
  • Conduct research, analyze trend services, retail, and prepare presentation boards to present to VP.
  • Interpret fashion forecast for businesses, considering merchandise line plan and sales trends.
  • Create style boards showing silhouette and color options, fabrics, prints, and patterns.
  • Select prints and work with graphic designer to develop original prints/graphics.
  • Help guide team to create technical drawings and color cads using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Communicate point of view to educate team and get buy-in.
  • Leverage sales insights to inform product opportunities.
  • Identify product opportunities and drive process to capitalize on them.
  • Collaborate with Merch/Sales to inform seasonal line plan.
  • Partner with sourcing to build-out core and seasonal fabric and trim palette with emphasis on quality and sustainability.
  • Participate in fit approval process for aesthetic point of view.
  • Collaborate with Brand on packaging requirements and seasonal product storytelling.
  • Build cohesive assortment ensuring each product delivers on brand aesthetic, function, and quality.
  • Partner with Product Development and VP Sales to create continuity across entire assortment.
  • Work on proto comments, fabric/lab dips approval.
  • Develop product and initiate tech pack process, completing detail 'call outs' of product development.
  • Ensure all design timelines are met and product is on track and on time.
  • Awareness and ownership in achieving product margin targets.
  • Visit retail stores consistently to understand how our product compares to competitors.
  • Lead and coach tech designers and graphic designers.

About You

  • 8+ years of related experience in apparel design.
  • Excellent understanding of contemporary and lifestyle markets on a global scale.
  • Dedication to quality and sustainability.
  • Ability to take ownership and be accountable.
  • Ability to take direction and be coachable and adaptable.
  • Ability to forecast and understand market trends and address them.
  • Ability to inspire and confidently campaign for ideas and proposals.
  • Thorough understanding of apparel constructions, materials, costing, and processes.
  • Highly motivated, creative, and enthusiastic.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners and drive towards shared success and outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience leading teams and developing design talent.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Bilingual (French/English) required due to overseas factory communication and client presentations.
  • Knowledge of PLM is an asset.
  • Experience in creating technical drawings, CAD & illustrations.
