In-House Legal Expert for Strategic Growth

ADP Canada seeks a seasoned in-house legal expert to lead our Canadian legal team and provide strategic day-to-day legal support and advice to senior management and associates. This role will involve working closely with the Toronto-based Senior Leadership Team to drive growth, coordinate efforts, and provide guidance on all matters requiring legal review.

  1. Key Responsibilities:
  2. Work collaboratively as a strategic business partner with the ADP Canada senior leadership team to identify, analyze, and resolve legal and risk-related issues affecting the business.
  3. Develop knowledge and understanding of legal/regulatory risks and compliance issues associated with the business to provide proactive advice and strategies.
  4. Provide balanced, strategic, and practical legal advice to all levels of the business regarding ADP Canada's operations.
  5. Collaborate with the Compliance Operations leader and team to promote a culture of compliance and support successful execution of initiatives.
  6. Review contractual issues and disputes with clients, providing guidance to the Global Contract Team and business leaders as required.
  7. Advise business leaders on managing and resolving disputes, litigation, investigations, and regulatory matters, liaising with ADP's Corporate Litigation team as needed.
  8. Maintain current knowledge of legal issues relevant to ADP through continuing education and professional associations.
  9. Report to ADP's Corporate Legal Department and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. A law degree (LL.B) or equivalent is required.
  2. Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or another provincial bar is mandatory.
  3. A minimum of 10 years of post-call legal practice experience, preferably with a top law firm or as in-house counsel for a corporation, advising senior management.
  4. Prior experience in compliance, including Canadian privacy legislation, CASL, AML, and French-language requirements.
  5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and time management skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with excellent business and legal judgment.
  2. The ability to explain complex legal principles to non-legal stakeholders.
  3. Strong time management and prioritization skills, adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  4. Employment law knowledge and experience would be an asset.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Fluency in written and spoken French would be beneficial.
