About the Role:


The City of Calgary is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Operations Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of our sanitary and storm lift stations, force mains, air valve maintenance, and odor control sites. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our wastewater collection systems, providing excellent customer service, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment.



Job Description:

  • Lift Station Operations and Maintenance: You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our lift stations, including performing routine checks, conducting repairs, and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Emergency Response: You will be required to respond promptly to emergency situations, including lift station failures, flooding, and power outages.
  • Odor Control Sites: You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our odor control sites, ensuring that they are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Air Valve Maintenance: You will be responsible for the inspection and maintenance of our air valves and Chestermere force main.


Key Qualifications:

  • Education: A High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and Level 1 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) for at least 1 full year.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience working with wastewater collection.
  • Certification: Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) within 1 year of employment.
  • Driver's License: A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.

Working Conditions:

This position may be exposed to odours, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dampness, untreated wastewater, and fumes. A portion of work is performed in an office environment.
