Job Summary

Durward Jones Barkwell & Company LLP is seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in St. Catharines. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for providing tax expertise to our clients, including compliance review of tax returns, tax planning engagements, and technical tax research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance review of tax returns for individuals, corporations, trusts, and partnerships, and the related foreign reporting requirements;
  • Participate in tax planning engagements and the preparation of technical tax memos;
  • Prepare instruction letters for the execution of corporate reorganizations, estate & post-mortem tax planning, business succession planning, and the purchase & sale of a business;
  • Conducting tax research and interpreting tax legislation and proposed legislative changes;
  • Providing technical expertise as an internal resource to staff who need tax support on their client files or on specific questions from their clients;
  • Preparing client correspondence, including; reports & analysis, discussion of technical issues and recommendations, and attending client meetings where appropriate;
  • Providing assistance to other offices of the Firm, as required, and collaborating with other service lines across the firm.

Requirements

  • Experience in Public Accounting;
  • 3-5 years of work experience with Canadian Income Taxation;
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation;
  • Willingness to enroll in or enrolled in the CICA In-Depth Tax Course, or completion of the MTax program;
  • Eagerness to be continuously learning and gaining experience in a broad range of tax concepts.
