Job Summary

The Millwright is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and assemble machinery, using hand and power tools as needed
  • Relocate and position equipment, using hoists and other lifting devices
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine work procedures
  • Dismantle and repair machinery, using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Construct foundations for new equipment, using building materials such as wood, cement, and steel
  • Align and install machinery, using hoists, jacks, and other equipment
  • Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match specifications
  • Assemble and install machinery, using bolts, welding, and other fastening methods
  • Diagnose and repair problems with equipment, using a variety of tools and techniques
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance
  • Lead and direct apprentices, to ensure successful task completion
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures

Requirements

  • Completion of a Red Seal valid Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification
  • Industrial Maintenance/Maintenance Millwright Technology college completion
  • Experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of machinery and equipment
  • Competent in detecting, isolating, and identifying irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Competent in fabricating new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul
  • Thorough knowledge of load bearing capabilities of the equipment to be installed, assembled, or dismembered
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications, mathematics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with quality standards
  • Accurate and highly analytical
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 100 lbs
  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools
  • Frequently noisy working environment
  • Overtime as required
  • Unionized USW Local 6187
  • 12-hour continental shifts

Salary

  • $35/hr. 1.5x pay for overtime on weekdays and 2.0x pay for overtime on weekends
