Electrical Design Specialist

As a key member of our team at EXP, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design services to our clients in Atlantic Canada. With a strong focus on multidisciplinary consulting, we are seeking a highly motivated and technically competent Electrical Engineer to join our Halifax office.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from building design and construction to feasibility studies and facility condition assessments. You will be responsible for preparing drawings, specifications, and reports, as well as creating project-specific details and coordinating with project team members.

As a member of our team, you will have access to our state-of-the-art office space and technology, including AutoCAD and REVIT. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to unique and challenging projects outside of Atlantic Canada, and to work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional results.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Preparing drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver a project
  • Creating project-specific details to clarify project scope and create building sections to assist with interference coordination between building systems
  • Preparing calculations to size electrical services and preparing equipment schedules that are project-specific
  • Responding to internal and external communication regarding project or design status
  • Conducting facility condition assessments, feasibility studies, design briefs, and options evaluations
  • Creating design drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Undertaking field investigations, including building condition assessments, field measurements, and preliminary reports
  • Conducting technical code and standard reviews and technical calculations to support building systems designs and reports
  • Communicating with clients, project stakeholders, and multidisciplinary team members using Microsoft Teams and other tools
  • Supporting clients during tendering and construction, including site inspections, site reports, and monitoring of contractor progress

Requirements for this role include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years of relevant buildings and industrial experience
  • Professional Engineer (licensed with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS), or eligible for immediate registration)
  • Background in preparation of construction documents, including specifications and cost estimates
  • Solid understanding of electrical design, construction, project, and budget management, and proposal preparation
  • Knowledge of the national building code, CSA, and Canadian Electrical Code
  • REVIT/BIM proficiency is considered a strong asset
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, products)
  • Experience with Energy modelling and energy auditing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, power generation, LEED, Green Globes are considered an asset
