Job Title: Director of Government Relations

At HOOPP, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Government Relations to join our team. As a key member of our Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for developing and executing our domestic government relations strategy to ensure alignment with our strategic plan and long-term objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in government relations, public affairs, and stakeholder relations, with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in senior roles. You will possess in-depth knowledge of government decision-making at both a political and civil service level, as well as experience in issues management, media relations, and reputation management.

You will be responsible for building trusted relationships with government officials, colleagues across the HOOPP enterprise, and other senior external resources. Your excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills will enable you to navigate complex processes and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute HOOPP's domestic government relations strategy to ensure alignment with our strategic plan and long-term objectives.
  • Build trusted relationships with government officials, colleagues across the HOOPP enterprise, and other senior external resources.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior executives on government relations and issues management.
  • Lead the development of strategies for issues management and advise on issues, trends, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to advance HOOPP's priorities and ensure that the provincial and federal governments' policies, regulations, and legislation reflect the needs of HOOPP and our members.
Requirements:
  • 8-10 years of experience in senior roles in government relations, public affairs, stakeholder relations, and strategic communications.
  • In-depth knowledge of government decision-making at both a political and civil service level.
  • Experience in issues management, media relations, and reputation management.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex processes and multiple stakeholders effectively.
