Job Title: Animal Technician I

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Technician I to join our team at Memorial University's Animal Care and Veterinary Resources department.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support in the care and maintenance of laboratory research animals. This includes feeding, cleaning, and providing enrichment for animals, as well as performing routine animal cage changes and sanitation procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clean feed, bedding, and enrichment for animals
  • Perform routine animal cage changes and swine room cleaning
  • Evaluate animals daily for normal/abnormal status
  • Report any problems to the Veterinarian
  • Assist Clinical or Senior Technical staff with animal handling and restraint
  • Maintain and submit required written records, charts, logs, and inventories
  • Perform routine facility sanitation procedures
Requirements:
  • Experience (1-3 years) in feeding and caring for animals in a laboratory or clinical environment
  • Completion of a veterinary technology or assistant program
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to follow directions and be thorough in performing assigned tasks
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. and work in a laboratory animal environment. Weekend and holiday rotations may be required.
