Automation Engineer

The Applications Engineer plays a vital role in our sales team, assisting in developing proposals and supporting the Director of Client Solutions and Sales Account Managers. Key responsibilities include maintaining and servicing specific customer accounts, responding to requests for quotations in a timely and efficient manner, and delivering the PSI Vision and Entrepreneurial Culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Create detailed layout drawings for tote, carton, and pallet conveyor layouts using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for various RFQs. Develop animations and simulations using SolidWorks, FlexSim, and other software.
- Liaise between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and assembly manufacturing groups for technical assistance in developing concepts, processes, and estimating labor and material costs to meet customer requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers to obtain estimates of major material and equipment costs required for budgeting and proposal preparation.
- Participate in the elaboration of technical deliverables and schedules for complete projects, as well as corresponding lists of interfaces.
- Develop and maintain pricing spreadsheets and/or databases.
- Work with external vendors to generate costings for selected equipment.
- Prepare specifications and estimate costs.
- Prepare draft budgets and quotation proposals for review with the Director of Client Solutions, Sales Manager, and Key Account Managers.
- Prepare project-related equipment layouts.
- Perform system capacity analysis and modeling.
- Write technical specifications for internal and external suppliers.
- Provide technical follow-up during engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Identify technical risks and their impact on the project and mitigate their effects.
- Offer proactive customer design support for integrated systems.
- Work within specific project budgets and timelines provided by the Director of Client Solutions.
- Participate in customer RFQ review meetings, either on-site or in-house.
- Collaborate with the sales team to progress leads, opportunities, and projects to completion.
- Gather data, clarify scope, and work towards an understood solution with customers, customer engineers, or consultants.
- Select, size, and detail company products to suit customer requirements and specifications for the process.
- Generate guiding documents for vendors and customers, such as data sheets, equipment layouts, tables, and bills of material, to support RFQs or RFPs.
- Read, understand, and comment upon customer-supplied project specifications to suit company products, goals, and processes.
- Locate potential vendors and write RFQs for non-standard purchased components included in a project.
- Create and update application standard templates. Update and document system standards in a modular design for customized system solutions.
- Develop system sales tools to assist sales in qualifying system opportunities.
- Attend trade shows, conferences, and meetings as needed for market research, technology advancements, customer follow-ups.
- Attend weekly sales and company meetings.
- Manage technical presentations at customer sites, trade shows, and meetings to demonstrate how a product meets customer needs.
- Solve customer problems with professionalism.
- 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Robotics is an asset.
- Experience in creating layout drawings and design.
- Ability to recommend and administer policies and procedures to enhance department operations and support continuous improvement.
- Ability to innovate and recommend PSI Database improvements to increase efficiency throughout the company.
- Liaise between departments to ensure on-time delivery of proposals and internal procedures.
- Strong Customer Service Skills, ability to promote positive relations with internal customers, partners, customers, and vendors, while being customer-focused.
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Capable in costing and budgeting estimations.
