Overview


Southbridge Care Homes is a dynamic organization dedicated to providing exceptional care and services to our residents. We are seeking a qualified Cook to join our Food and Nutrition Department team, responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals that meet the high standards of our residents.



Job Summary


The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing menus, preparing food following standardized recipes, and monitoring quality and quantity of food supplies. They will also assist with staff replacements and service calls for malfunctioning equipment in the absence of the Food Services Manager.



Key Responsibilities



  • Reviewing menus and preparing food following standardized recipes and production sheets


  • In the absence of the Food Services Manager, assisting with their responsibilities


  • Maintaining quality and quantity of food supplies and recommending corrective action when necessary


  • Coaching Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and serving activities


  • Assuming responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Food Services Manager




Qualifications and Requirements


To be considered for this role, candidates must meet one of the three qualification scenarios outlined below:



Qualification Scenarios



  2. Chef training or culinary management certificate/diploma from a program that meets the requirements of the Ontario Long Term Care Act
  3. Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long Term Care Act
  4. Post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post-secondary degree in food and nutrition


Additional Qualifications



  • Red Seal Cook Trade Certification preferred
  • Experience in institutional large quantity cooking preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proven ability to provide direction and lead others within a busy environment
  • Must provide a current Safe Food Handling Certificate issued by the TBDHU
  • Must possess/able to obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check


Salary


The estimated salary for this role is between $55,000 and $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
