Optoelectronics Specialist

Smiths Interconnect is seeking a highly skilled Optoelectronic Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Design Engineering group, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of high-density interconnects and optical transceivers for defense and space markets.

• Provide technical leadership for the design, analysis, and testing of high-speed optical transceivers.
• Lead or support optical transceiver design projects, ensuring alignment with process and test capabilities.
• Define product specifications and requirements, working closely with vendors and internal teams.
• Model, design, and procure optical transceivers, ensuring compliance with requirements.
• Work with process and test engineers to ensure designs meet process and test capabilities.
• Source required components and collaborate with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
• Support prototype builds and engineering design verification to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Perform data analysis and reporting, as well as design and conduct experiments to support new product development efforts.
• Perform root cause failure analysis and support product NPI and implementation into manufacturing.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• In-depth knowledge of guided optics physics, test methods, and optoelectronics components.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, including technical documentation, written reports, and proposals.
• Demonstrated fibered optics engineering capability in programs that encompass requirements analysis, design, production, integration, test, and transition into operations.
• Knowledge in high-speed signal integrity and impedance control up to 50GHz.
• Highly meticulous and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills to deliver solutions within budget and tight timelines.
• Programming knowledge (Python) and embedded systems experience.
