Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide community visits to assess and determine treatment for adult or pediatric clients with speech and language disorders, pre-linguistic communication behavior, cognitive communication, and dysphagia.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assess, diagnose, and treat communication disorders such as speech, fluency, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.
  2. Develop, plan, and implement a treatment plan to remedy the issue the patient is presenting with.
  3. Create personalized care plans for each patient, often working with other medical staff on an interdisciplinary team.
  4. Provide education and counseling to patients and families on communication and swallowing disorders.
  5. Conduct research on speech and communication disorders and develop new diagnostic procedures and devices.
  6. Instruct and supervise communicative disorders assistants, students, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements:
  1. Degree in Speech Language Pathology and current registration with the provincial licensing body where applicable.
  2. Minimum 1 year speech language pathology experience, community health experience preferred.
  3. Technical knowledge of different speech and swallowing disorders and how to treat them.
  4. Ability to create patient-centered treatment plans that fit into the patient's life and help improve symptoms.
  5. Ability to work with a diverse team of medical professionals.
  6. Advanced communication skills to explain speech and swallowing disorders to patients and their families.
