Real Estate Development Lawyer: Expert in Commercial Transactions

About the RoleThis full-time, hybrid position offers the ideal opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join our dynamic team and contribute their expertise to high-profile real estate development projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic advice on land acquisition, development, financing, leasing, and structuring processes
- Performing due diligence and risk assessments for real estate deals
- Drafting and negotiating various real estate documents, including sales agreements, joint venture arrangements, easements, leases, and financing agreements
- Resolving legal disputes arising from real estate development projects, such as contract disputes, zoning appeals, environmental compliance issues, and construction defects
- Staying up-to-date with changing laws and trends, advising clients on potential impacts and strategic opportunities
- Collaborating with colleagues to deliver integrated legal services to clients and support the overall success of the firm
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- 5+ years of experience practicing real estate law, with a focus on commercial transactions and real estate development
- Expertise in taking raw land through the development approval process, obtaining subdivision/site plan/development approval, and strata consent
- Knowledge of municipal law, including land use planning, expropriation, municipal property tax assessment, and municipal finance
- Experience in land purchases and sales, financing, and joint venture structures, including cost-sharing arrangements, volume sales of residential lots, raw land development, and infill redevelopment
- A proven record of managing real estate development projects from inception to completion
