Job Title: Full Time Residential Counsellor

At The Salvation Army, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full Time Residential Counsellor to join our team. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges in our residential settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide personalized support to residents, promoting their personal development and well-being through individualized support planning and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care and support.
  • Administer medications and maintain accurate records.
  • Develop and implement learning opportunities, fostering independence and self-advocacy in residents.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment, adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Provide orientation and support to new staff members, students, and volunteers.
  • Embody the agency's mission and values, promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to physical demands, including lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Dealing with challenging behaviors and situations.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Qualifications and Education:
  • Completed Developmental Services Worker Diploma or related degree/diploma.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
  • Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum 6-12 months' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
  • Experience with implementing Individual Support Plans and medication administration.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Strong counselling and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
